For the book cover design of Story Secrets from Scripture, I used icons on the front cover. Story Secrets from Scripture is about how to develop and deliver children’s stories for worship, vacation Bible school, and Bible study. The book covers how to find personal stories, assign teaching points, and tell these stories live.

Icons are everywhere these days and make it easy to identify an action or type of content. I decided to add icons to the front cover as an extra layer. Since Story Secrets from Scripture includes several parables from Jesus and various techniques to improve storytelling, I selected icons related to these areas.

In addition to icons on the front cover, I also developed some illustrations that included icons. The top one is related to ways to rehearse a story. The second illustration was for the parable of the talents, but I ended up not including this image.

All of the icons above came from the site Flaticon. The site offers two options to download images. For a couple of years I used the free option. However, subscribing monthly opens up almost two million for download and the extra steps required to download for free are omitted.
