Previously I shared my notes from an administrative professionals’ retreat. This presentation on virtual meetings was included in those notes, but I feel this content is important enough to be a stand-alone post.
Since the COVID19 pandemic virtual meetings have been a part of education, church, and work – everywhere!
If you apply these tips, presented by Mindy, your virtual meetings will be more engaging and memorable.
- Start with a question (“What was your highlight of the week?”).
- Use structured activities such as ice breakers (I like to call these “opening activities), “Yes and” to draw out more responses, periodic 1-word check-ins, summarize the meeting using only 3 words, and lots of team-building activities.
- Give attendees grace and be patient as they join virtual meetings and interact using available tools (raising hands, reacting with emojis, chatting, etc.).
Running meetings
- Identify meeting norms.
- Be a good participant in meetings or segments where you are not leading.
- Be prepared by ensuring that producer and instructor roles are defined, technical aspects have been prepped and tested, and any files for download are ready.
- An important take-away from this presentation for me was to always use video on calls, even if others don’t.
